I can't believe she's finished I have no idea how long she took...
The inspiration I wanted for this one can be summarised in one word: exotic. I wanted arlequin-type colours, which I had never dared before, a Black beauty, an exotic bird and last but not least, to integrate Celtic knots into it, or at least the idea of them, as I didn't follow a traditional pattern but improvised with the cut of the clothing. The shoulder pieces were born of the need to give the bird a spacious perch. The rest, well... I was really trying to do something I normally wouldn't do. I posed for the posture and lighting, which helped tremendously for the rendering (unfortunately it also means she looks a bit like me, heh).
Pencil and ink, colouring in Photoshop, border and title in Illustrator. I'm not going to say much about her here because my next deviation will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about her
If anything needs fixing, especially in the shading/highlights, I'll take care of it after my trip.
I will need to look at it again with fresh eyes in a few days, but the noses of Black people often have little or no bridge, which is why there's that amount of flat space at the bridge. But like I said, I'll need to check
Thanks!
Gorgeous! I love your costuming, and your colour sense. And I adore that little bird- I was just down south on a short holiday, and there was a pink-and-grey galaa in a cage there, that would sing and dance with you, and eat out of your hand! Your bird reminds me of that one!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
