This is not a mistake in numbering, and you haven't missed the posting of the first 3 parts! I simply finished this one first, and since it can be useful even in the absence of the primer, it would have made no sense to keep it in the fridge till they're all done. It will of course be even more useful in the light of the generalities, so don't point that out, as this is the plan for this tutorial series: PART 1: Cat anatomy and details PART 2: The cat in motion PART 3: Big cat species PART 4: Little cat species (PART 5: Wild Cat and Domestic Cat races not sure about this one yet, depends if I'm thoroughly sick of cats by then!)
All the Little Cats (Felinae) species are shown here, save for a couple listed at the top of the document (no subspecies!) Even though it is completely irrelevant for an illustrator whether the Bay Cat goes under Catopuma or Pardofelis, I've done my best to abide by the latest classification system, but let me tell you it's not particularly easy to find out which is the latest to start with. If there are errors in that regard please let me know, but only if you're somehow involved with taxonomy and absolutely certain I don't want to have to make repeated changes. Yes, this one alone took weeks.
My sources will be listed when this thing is complete.
For the rest of my tutorials go here. For my tutorial books go here.
This is pretty cool! Thanks for posting I love the part on the cheetah's run. Are you planning on putting clouded leopard and snow leopard in another file?

Wonderful, as always. Your tutorials are really helpful and full of details, but what I valore the most is that they are not a "how to... step by step": to use the guidelines you give us can be more difficult, but it also gives the opportunity to really learn.
Brilliant tutorial--or really more of a reference guide I suppose, but still, amazing to have all in one place and with such a variety even among the small cats... incredible work!
Two (small) points: under "Felis" there appears to be a line missing (in the header bar) and two under Jaguarundi: the description of the name makes it sound like *Jaguarundi* means "weasel-kat" in German, which sounds a bit confusing if you don't know German. :\ Just a small sticking point that I found.
I cannot wait to see the cat in motion one--that's sure to be great! (No pressure or anything.)
... *flailswithglee* I love this! I really need to learn how to draw cats in motion for this... thing... I'm working on. I hope you make a part for leopards! You must have researched a lot for this.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
