Another ooooold one – my drawing skills have come a long way since and I realise the animation is not very smooth, so no need to mention it ;) We played with frame rates depending on the time vs quality requirements. 24 was generally too much unnecessary work, but if you half that you get 12, which is too choppy. 18 fps was a good compromise and the minimum rate we worked with. I was also not so patient back then...

I still find this one terribly cute. It is based on an image from L'Ecume des Jours, a novel by French surrealist poet Boris Vian. It's a surprising book that would translate very poorly, but one image had stuck in my head, a passage where he describes the ray of the sun hitting the windows and dripping down to form little pools of golden light from which mice came to drink. I took off from there and obviously I was in my cute period (bah!)

I can't remember if this was done in TicTacToon or if we had switched to USAnimation* already. That software arrived in late 2001 along with a trainer, and as I recall we were the very first team to use its lightbox module (at the time most animation teams still scanned cels and then used the rest of the modules, but we drew digitally).

*USAnimation is the full version of the Toon Boom Studio animation software.

I've discovered pataphysique a few years ago. So I've looked into Boris Vian, Alfred Jarry and Eugene Ionesco. I really liked " L'écumes de jours " and even more " L'arrache coeur". :)

Anyway same thing for me. I dont know many people who can make a reference to Boris Vian. ;)

Strange... but funny. Though you'd think the lizard would be important.
